On the Seventh Day…

So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed. By the seventh day God completed His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation. Genesis 2:1-3

If God rested, is it not his intent for us to rest as well?

“Rest” used 347 times in the Bible

Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest,  dedicated to the Lord. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. (Ex 31:15)

But there will be a Sabbath of complete rest  for the land in the seventh year, a Sabbath to the Lord: you are not to sow your field or prune your vineyard. (Lv 25:4)

Rise up, Lord, come to Your resting place,
You and Your powerful ark.
“This is My resting place forever;
I will make My home here
because I have desired it.  (Ps 132:8)

In vain you get up early and stay up late,
working hard to have enough food–
yes, He gives sleep to the one He loves.  t  (Ps 127:2)

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me,  because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves.  30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
