A Person who engages or is an expert in theology.

What is Theology?
The study of the nature of God and religious belief.

Jewish Rabbis are asking the question?

“There are many reasons for the surge of theological thinking in the 1950s, but the most important reason why theology matters — both then and now — is because while Judaism may be a religion of deed and not creed, a generation that does not invest its energy into the question of Jewish belief is a generation that will find itself without the life-sustaining aquifers necessary to keep it vital.”-Elliot Cosgrove, a Conservative rabbi at Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago, is a doctoral candidate in modern Jewish thought at the University of Chicago.

The 1950’s saw great theologians in Christianity too, then came the 1960’s and the “paperback” theology. This radical theology is what led to the time cover “is God Dead?”

Moltman – in the 1960’s with “Theology of Hope” and “Jesus Christ for todays world”

Instead of “persons”, “groups” now reign as modern theologians.

The public opinion of Theologians was once respected. Now they are thought of as “religious” nuts.

Modern Theologians -Robert Jenson(Lutheran 86yo), Serene Jones(UCC President at Union Theological Seminary), James Cone (78yo Prof of Sys Theo at Union Theological Seminary/Black Liberation Theology).
