Intimacy with Christ

We talk about intimacy with Christ, how spiritual disciplines relate to it all and how we can improve our overall experience.

What is meant by intimacy when it comes to our relationship with Christ?  Do spiritual disciplines play a factor when it comes to experiencing this relationship to the fullest?  Join us tonight as we discuss this in great detail with special guest Rich Saxton.

Show Notes
Sabbath (Sabbath as resistance – Brueggemann)
Matthew 6:24  – “You cannot serve both God and wealth”

  • The discipline of sabbath says, “God, you are on the throne, not making advances in my career.”
  • Gives time for other disciplines, prayer, fasting, study, and fellowship(community)
  • Brueggeman references Isaiah 1 where God despises the worship of His people because they were not actually obeying the sabbath. Brueggeman says, “They may have gone through the motions of sabbath; but they did not stop the practices of anxiety, coercion, and exploitation that real work stoppage would entail” Does that sound familiar?

Prayer

  • Speaking vs. Listening

Study

  • Depth vs. Width
  • Example given to me by Dave Smith.

Fasting

  • Self reliance or Holy Spirit reliance
